"hoppin' down the bunny trail..."

it's funny how families celebrate the same holiday with such detailed and such different traditions. We are so protective of those childhood memories and believe it is imperative to pass on those very important traditions to our children... Keith and I have recently discovered how different our Easter traditions are. we are having to make some adjustments.... hahaha!
I went to get Urban's Easter basket and what-nots the other day and naturally came home with plastic eggs.
Daddy was quick to question those "ugly things" and i, of course, said, "what? They're to line the 'bunny trail' to his basket that we'll hide." Daddy then exclaimed, "What!?! No, no, no, you are supposed to use REAL eggs!
at which time i responded, "eewww!, disgust... real eggs?" hahahaha.... we went on and on... proceeded to argue about what tradition is better at fostering more positive memories (i won of course... Just kidding Daddy!), but finally decided that he needed BOTH to fulfill his easter holiday.
so we dyed our eggs and we'll mix the real and plastic eggs to his basket as long as he gets to dye the eggs himself... it's not Easter without the great joy of dying eggs!!!
Daddy says it's more for mommy anyway... He might be right, but Urban did enjoy the bright colors and he was able get his hands, a.k.a. tongue on a few. I guess he didn't mind the vinegar taste because he licked that dye right off those eggs! hahaha... Happy Easter!!!

a few good whiffs

This week I thought i'd introduce some new and exciting scents into Mister Urban's world. We have lots of strong options from our spice rack that, unfortunately, we NEVER use so I thought I'd let Urban get a few good whiffs! I sprinkled some different spices on cotton balls and then held them up to Urban's nose. He made lots of funny faces for my enjoyment, liked most of them, with one he wasn't too sure about....

BASIL... mmmm, smells pretty good!

ROSEMARY... sniff, sniff, not too bad... might be good on chicken!

OREGANO.... yummy for my tummy!

CINNAMON... WHOA! not so much!

"YOUR BABY CAN READ!"

with only 4 EASY payments of $29.95 your baby can read too! We'll even throw in the adorable baby Urban to demonstrate for free!!! hahahaha...

Urban really does LOVE his books. We usually read a couple times a day, but i try and read to him every night before bedtime. I find that it really relaxes him.

And, I'm pretty sure he is reading along with me! ;) No, but really he does try and turn the pages. I think he sees me doing it so much that he wants to get on with it already! LOL...

He has also learned to stand up in the tummy tub.... he likes much better to stand than sit. He might be more of a shower kind of a guy---just like his daddy!

busy weekend...

this weekend was very busy at the 4-2-1. we took a trip down to goliad to check the place out and celebrated Blythe's 3rd BIRTHDAY!!! I can't believe she is already 3... well I can't believe mine is 3 months... insanity! It was a gorgeous day down in the country and Urban enjoyed every minute of it. he sat on the trailer and watched the cows and daddy do their thing! He's talking more and more these days and really starting to show his personality. he laughs A LOT. either he is easily entertained or his parents are very funny! ;)
we played lion king too... "ingonyama-ingonyama-ba... it's the circle of life!" LOL!!!! Urban played along and humored mommy... i love the LION KING!

Blythe's birrthday was a whole-lota fun too! she even had a special visit from Dora the explorer!!!! [wink-wink] I had so much fun doing it! I've always wanted to be a disney character at Disney World. I have a new respect for mascots... man is it HOT, HOT, HOT in those big heads! I told Keith... "man, if i'll dress up as Dora for my niece's birthday what will I do for Urban's birthday?!?" He rolled his eyes, but he's just gonna have to brace himself for it! hahahaha!Emmie got ahold of some leftover cake on the table and the next thing we knew she had it all over her face! Blue skies and birthdays... nothing better!!

3 months make a miracle

what is love?

a question with so many answers. a question no mother ever has to ask herself. she knows it too well.
it sleeps in her arms. it grasps her finger. it kisses her goodnight. it hugs her leg. it lives, always, inside her; imprinted on her heart.

only three months since he graced us with his presence, but the love that resonates in my son is so strong. that love lived within me, waiting to be brightened, my whole life. a love that only twinkled within me for so long has grown, in only 92 days, to be brilliantly bright in the eyes of my son. his love light is strong. he is love. i am truly blessed by god. the gifts he gives are so great and everlasting!

Lowriders and Lollipops

lowriders
well, Urban is getting to the point where he MUST sit up. He tries so hard to pull himself up just by his abs... to no avail of course. poor guy thinks he's stronger than he is right now. He gets his head and upper back up so it looks like he's doing a little crunch, hahaha!he loves to sit up so I put him in his car DeeDee gave him for christmas and he stays up on his own for a little while, but eventually ends up LOW-RI-DING! LOL!!!

lollipops
If he's not sucking on his fingers he's drooling a river, but he really can't hold on to things for very long so to help sooth his gums I facilitate the gnawing on soft toys and teethers... i call them his lollipops! he really gets after it. must be a good flavor!

"Thank God I'm A Country Boy..."

we went down to Goliad to clean up one of the fields by the house this weekend. It was Urban's first time on the tractor!
Mommy and Urban drove while daddy piled sticks into the front end-loader.
As you can see I used my Mobywrap and it worked out pretty well! He was in charge of steering... An intense job which he took very seriously, hahaha!
Urban lasted a good 2 hours before he had to eat... and I couldn't keep a workin' boy waiting on food!
Poor Daddy... he had to finish the rest on his own.

small moments

I was just thinking about the wonders of motherhood and thought i'd share some of the small moments i love... up until now!

THE FIRST TIME you saw your baby smile was thrilling. it most likely made you cry. But, even better is when his smile reached his eyes. Smiling baby eyes are heart warming to say the least, but when that smiles go so far as to touch his glistening eyes it's like the whole world is smiling at you... and frankly, it is!

BELLY LAUGHS... Oh man are those the best ever. When you can get your child to laugh so hard he gets the hiccups (well mine gets the hiccups pretty easily) those are big laughs! but man, the giggles that turn into screams of laughter are the bomb-diggity!

THE FIRST TIME you feel him clutch to your arm when you hold him over your shoulder. it's small, but it's sooo incredible to actually feel him develop.

WHEN SOMEONE COMES to talk to him and he turns into your chest to rub his face in shyness. you know that he feels safest with you.

1A.M. WHEN YOU'RE just on the verge of sleep and the silence is ever so perfectly cut by the pure sounds of breathing from your favorite men in the world. It is a song of gentle whispers; better than a lullaby.

JUST AFTER NURSING when his body is so warm against yours and his lips are the perfect shade of pink and sweetly puckered. that face is perfection.

WHEN DADDY HOLDS him so you can get a few things done. then, in your busy moments, you catch a glimpse of him staring, grinning at every bit of your motions. With those innocent, gleaming eyes you know he loves you completely and unconditionally.

HE CRIES WITH SOMEONE new and you know exactly what he needs... they hand him over to you and in seconds of your touch and voice he is calm, head so gently against your chest, hearts beating together. To know you're able to comfort him so completely is awesome.

i know there are sooo many more, I could go on forever, but those are just a few I find completely joyous... up until now! :)

"People All Over the World..."

This song came on tv the other night and we started dancing. Urban loved it!

"The road goes on forever, but the DROOLING never ends..."

the drooling with this kid never stops!

Man-O-Man, I just can't seem to turn off the faucet. we think he is probably teething though we don't think we'll see a tooth for a while... well, hopefully for the sake of the ladies, we won't... please pray. :)
We go through so many burp cloths it's not funny. If anyone ever asks me "what baby item did I find the most useful?" or "what I couldn't live without?" I'd definitely say BURP CLOTHS!!! Between his projectile spit-up and the constant flow of drool I don't know what I would do without them!

Thanks to whoever thought of making cloth diapers into burp cloths... genius!

Nipples, Nipples, Nipples!!!

UGH!!! I love breast feeding, I really do, but when we are out in public it's sooo much easier to pop a bottle in and go... well easier if he would actually take a bottle!

For two and a half months Urban has taken a bottle NO problem, but all of a sudden he is resisting the heck out of that rubber nipple! I can't figure it out... I thought nipple confusion would be a far off nightmare, but it seems to be creeping it's way into our lives.

I have tried different bottles with different nipples, but he really struggles at establishing a good relationship with the artificial thing. He will eventually get the good stuff, but it just takes him a long time to get going and even when he does it's not with the hungry ferocity that it used to be. He'll play with it, lackadaisically push it in and out of his mouth and if he's REALLY hungry forget about it. He won't even try to wrap his precious lips around it.

We'll keep trying, but until then it looks like babysitting might be a loss... sorry grandparent's! :(

the blog begins...

Soooo,

since most of the mommies I know have a blog to show off their beauties, I figured I'd start one of my own! I really have a hard time updating/posting stuff on FB because the world can see, but maybe it'll be easier on a blog because I can regulate the traffic... LOL.

and forgive my grammar. in one sentence i might have absolutely no punctuation or capitalization and the next sentence i might have WAY TOO MUCH... also, I might overuse "..." whaterver that's called---ellipse? hahaha... I figure, "it's a blog, why not?... NO Rules apply! ---well at least for me---
i've gotten used to the green and red squiggly lines on my screen :) Anyway... just a small disclaimer.

Hope you enjoy my ramblings... oh and the real reason you tune in....

URBAN!!!

here are some recent pics of our little monster... I always used to call him that in the womb because of the way he moved so much... now he is furthest from a monster---more like a little piglet complete with the wonderful pink skin, sweet little squeal and chubster rolls....LOVES me some baby rolls!

Happy baby...

Whoa... freak-out moment!

Loves...
